"Seasons' greetings!"
This is perhaps one of the most common "other ways" for greeting people on Christmas. And I wonder what exactly the greetings of the season are? Or does it mean a simple regard from a person on Christmas day? Regardless, this phrase creates a picture in my mind of a snowy winter night, bright and happy with glimmering lights and people on the street. And there are benches on the sidewalks. Kind of a happy season, isn't it?
"And though it's been said many times, many ways, merry Christmas to you."
This is a line from the song 'The Christmas Song,' and has been a favorite of mine for quite a long time now. I think one of the most vivid memories of me hearing it was when I was younger, and we were inside a car (or van???), with my relatives, one Christmas season. It was years ago, and I'm not sure how old I was back then. I'm also not so sure if that was the first time I heard that song, but it's such a memory that has clung to me. Sadly, I also can't recall other details of that day. Just the song and the place. And Christina Aguilera's voice.
"'Tis the season!"
This one reminds me of the song, which I don't know the title of, but it goes like this: "'Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la, la la la la." So, yeah, I continue the lyrics.
To me this phrase means like, this is it! This is the time of year we've all been waiting for! This is the season!
"Joyeux Noel."
This is French for merry Christmas. I just saw one from a The French Baker outlet. I think it's fun to try to read if you can't speak French. Or more mind-boggling than fun. Still, I really want to learn to speak French.
...and visit France!
"Gloria in excelsis Deo."
A Latin phrase meaning "Glory to God in the highest", this one is like, most divine to me. It's like an expression of total praise and adoration to God as Jesus was born, the greatest Gift has come. I wonder what it sounded like way back in that night, when Jesus was born and a great company of the heavenly host together praised God and said "Glory to God...". And indeed, thank God for Christmas!
So, whatever the tag line, the phrase or the expression, let me extend my warmest greetings of a merry Christmas to you. God bless.
