Bending Metal

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in front of this metal pathway handle just outside a mall nearby.

And, I was getting a little bored when I thought of something that interested me. I looked at the straight metal bar and wondered if I could make a little optical trick out of it. Have you heard of the "jelly ballpen" trick? The one where you hold a pen horizontally in its middle part with your thumb and index fingers and then make a waving motion with it and try to make it appear as if it actually is waving like it's jelly. Well, this is kind of like that, but in the other way around. Instead of the object, I waved the "receiver." This is what happened.

I successfully bent the metal bar. Who knew I could do such a thing? And as it appears, I bent the surrounding space too.

Piece of jelly.
