A Dreadful Event

A strong (really, really strong as things turned out) typhoon came into our country just this past weekend.
'Ondoy' was its name here.

I never expected it could cause so much damage,
so much tragedy,
so much loss.
Just so much.

I was almost surprised when I found out the grave damage the typhoon had caused.
Because we didn't experience anything more than strong winds and rain last Saturday,
and I was very thankful about that,
although I really really hope that it was the same for every one who experienced the power of the storm.

It was such a very sad,
more than sad news, even,
that so many families were left without food and water.
Worse, there are many who were left without a shelter.
Without  a home.
Even worse, many lost their loved ones. Some even lost their family.
Some are still missing.
Very, very devastating.

They were caught off-guard. They never expected the waters to rise that fast, that much.
In some places, it got higher than a two-story house that it left a lot of people stranded on their roofs. What about those who don't have any more than a first floor!

It was a great flood.

How are people to recover from such a tragedy?
How are they going to move on, with some of their loved ones gone? Now that their families are no longer complete?
How about tomorrow?
How do they get the courage to rise again?
And,
how do we help?

Help.

It's heart-warming to see that a lot of people are helping in their own way, whether it be small or big, it doesn't matter. Every single effort counts.
Many volunteer to repack relief goods, others donate food, clothes, and other useful materials, and others donate money. And still others do different things just to help.
To show compassion.

How fulfilling it could be to be one of them.

Again,
I was thankful to God for keeping our family safe and sound through the storm.
And I hope things went the same for all: safe and sound.
But things happen and they happen for a purpose. For God's purpose. For what purpose or what reason, although we may not understand sometimes, God surely knows, and He knows better. He knows best.

I so much want to be one of those who aid the severely affected people of their difficulty in such a dreadful event.
