To be honest, I really didn't know it was Earth Day today (or that it was today) until I opened my Daily Bread Journal and found out that it was, from the title and theme of today's devotional. I suppose I have forgotten about it. Anyways, I wonder how the world celebrates this day. My own unawareness also made me wonder just how many people know today is Earth Day, and if they do know, I wonder if they pay attention to it. For me, I think it is quite crucial nowadays that we consider every day 'Earth Day'.
It's funny how we're doing our own bit at home for the environment today. Last night while we were in the middle of watching the movie Step Up 2 on our DVD, we heard a sudden pop (as in sound) audibly blast from somewhere around or in the kitchen. Nothing happened. In a few minutes, we heard another pop. This time, the light in the kitchen (I mean, the bulb on the ceiling) went off. At that time, it was the only light in the house switched on since as aforementioned, we were movie-watching, so the other lights were off, aside from the lamp-like light we get from the Christmas lights we use as official lamp at home. We (myself, especially) came to the kitchen to investigate and find out what's wrong with the light bulb. But nothing seemed wrong, or looked wrong at least. Then we tried to switch the other lights on... but they didn't! We still got power for everything else, aside from the switches. All lights in the house were literally out. I theorize the wiring of the lights in general got damaged, so it affected totally all of them. But the good side is, as I have earlier said, we're doin' our own timely contribution for the environment this Earth Day in our own simple, little and most of all, accidental kind of way.
Fortunately, somebody's gonna come later on to check it and - hopefully - fix it, so the 'lights off contribution' that's reminiscent of the past Earth Hour would last only for Earth Day - of course only if the problem is resolved. But what matters is we did something pro-earth-y this Earth Day, though unintentionally.
Wishing you had a green happy Earth Day!

Till next post, Happy Earth day! Happy Earth day! Happy Earth day...
