It's my 18th birthday, and I shouldn't, wouldn't let this day end without having written an entry for this once in my lifetime day.
This day is very special in my life as apparently, today I'm no longer a minor (yikes, I'm saying it again). I have turned eighteen. 18 years old now. Whew... I think I have come of age.
Today was fun and happy. A lot of friends, schoolmates, classmates and people greeted me. I really appreciated it that there are those who I didn't expect would remember or know about my birthday but greeted me. All the warm greetings that came to me today were half unexpected, and I loved it.
Back when the clock stroke 12 last midnight, while our grandma and my younger boy cousin were deep asleep, me and my of-the-same-age cousin were in the middle of applying some finishing touches to our projects which were soap sculptures. I was slouched on the floor of our living room when I got up and took out a milk chocolate drink, some cookies and two glasses. I asked her to refrain from our job for a moment to have a cheers as a kiddie welcoming of my 18th birthday. So we poured some choco-milk into our glasses, put some cookies on a saucer and had a childish "cheers!" After which we got busy munching on the cookies. While for sure most people do cheers on their birthday with a glass of wine, we had it with what is in our hands which were at that time, a tetra pack of milk chocolate. Kiddie cheers. Awesome.
And just this night, our family shared on the food we have bought. Really really yummy food, especially the pizzas. We started with my prayer of thanksgiving (sounds like a formal occasion, doesn't it?), and then we started celebrating on the food!
Later on, my best friend and her family came over to our house and brought ice cream and donuts for us to share. Not only that, they also brought with them lots of smiles, laughter and talk. They are so nice. My best friend had given me a picture frame with our photo in it as a gift.
Right now, I am having a chat with my mother and aunt who are in Europe. When our call started, they opened it with a lively duet of the "Happy Birthday" song before either of us even had a word. At that moment, I felt how much I totally miss them. At the same time, I also felt how much they love me. The song was more than just a song.
Love.
