Just a little thermal paste.

Everytime I press the power button of the computer, it immediately powers down after a few seconds.

I have been constantly pissed and bedazzled by that problem. About two months back, the same problem persisted, but was troubleshot by replacing the RAM.

Luckily, after the first use, the problem was back. Luckily again, I was still at school that time, trying the computer for use. So this time the power supply was replaced.

It worked. The computer was all fine and working. Until after a few weeks, a fear started coming into me that something inevitable, something dreadful is starting to crawl into existence.

Then one night, I was using the computer when it hang. So I restarted it. It worked. It hang again. Restart. Worked. Hang. Restart. Worked. Hang. Until.. restart... then, nothing. Power on, power off. The dreaded event.

For a long, long time, I tried to study and contemplate on the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem. I think I haven't allotted enough time for fixing it. I was too busy with my projects that I couldn't even conveniently make by the loss of a computer.

Until today. Today when my money finally came.

I was thinking of buying a new motherboard or processor. But I wasn't sure of the case was that severe. It would be so expensive of a risk to guess on the (as I said) expensive parts being defective already. So I decided that I'll try if a thermal paste would fix all the problems.

So when I got home, after cleaning the processor of the old dried faded thermal paste, we cleaned it more and then applied a new thin layer of the paste on top of it. Then we pinned it, re-closed the system unit, and then moment of truth.

Plug here, plug there, a little static electricity here and a little ground there.. until only one thing's left to be done: PRESS THE POWER BUTTON.

So I did. And the blue light turned on. And it didn't turn off within the expected span of time. Until it was practically, technically, actually, realistically on!

I was all full of "Whoa's" and the only thing that was lacking were tears of joy. I was so happy I talked to the PC.

I couldn't have blogged now if this didn't happen.

I successfully "shot" the trouble. Quite remarkable.
